James A. McCracken James A. McCracken

Jim McCracken grew up on the Eastern shores of the state of Maine. In High School, he found Lobstering to be a tough pastime, so he headed west to his to attend Iowa State University to study forestry. During college, he spent his summers working with his Uncle (George Wilhelm) in Bacon’s veneer mill. Upon his return from Vietnam in 1969, he joined the sales staff of Bacon Veneer. Throughout the 1970’s Jim was instrumental in bringing wood veneer to the architect and design industry. During the 1980’s Jim’s focus changed toward veneer production. Finalizing his purchase of the company in the 1990’s, Jim was able to add new slicers, dryers, and reconfigure the mill’s production to help the company become a leading brand and major supplier of veneer to the volume user market place. He is an avid snow skier, tennis player, and enjoys the game of golf during the warm weather months.
