Case Study #4

Challenge – The designer was from Australia and wanted to use a “local wood” with a medium tone quality.

Parameters – The challenge with Australian Lacewood is to find a way to create a “uniform” appearance given the variable “flake character” quarter cutting Lacewood produces.

Success – The extra efforts of the woodworker yielded the desired result by utilizing the various “flake characteristics” in opposing directions, thus giving the furniture panels a more uniform appearance. The “larger flake” was used on the angle while the “smaller flake” was used in the vertical.
